The Consumer Affairs Office Marks World Consumer Rights Day And Two Years Of Service

PR – The Consumer Affairs Office proudly joins the global community in Celebrating World  Consumer Rights Day on 15th March 2026, while also commemorating two years since the  department officially opened its doors on March 15th, 2024.

To mark this milestone, the office will focus on educating, engaging and empowering both  consumers and businesses from March 9th to 15th. Activities such as production site visits,  surveillance visits and a public engagement event are planned as part of the office’s ongoing  commitment to protecting consumer interests and strengthening confidence in the  marketplace.

This year’s observance is being held under the global theme, “Safe products, Confident  Consumers,” a theme that highlights the need for stronger product safety and greater  consumer confidence worldwide. The campaign underscores that access to safe reliable  goods and services is a fundamental consumer right and a cornerstone to fair, thriving  markets.

Director of Consumer Affairs Mrs. Merlyn Horsford- Williams Stated:

“As we celebrate two years of serving the public, World Consumer Rights Day 2026 calls on  sectors of society to prioritize consumer safety and trust. Product safety is not only a  regulatory obligation, but also a moral commitment to protect lives and livelihoods.  Together, through awareness and responsible practices, we can build markets where  consumers feel confident and protected.”

The office reminds the public that the Consumer Protection Act exists to safeguard  consumers against unfair trading practices, unsafe goods, and misleading information, while  also outlining the obligations of businesses to operate responsibly and ethically.
