Trinidad: Man Killed In Ambush

(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) –  A 22-year-old Morvant man was ambushed and shot dead while seated in a parked SUV off Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, on Sunday night, sending several people who were buying food fleeing for safety.

Police said that around 8.50 p.m., Jalani George of Hirondelle Street, Morvant, was seated in a Hyundai Creta parked outside the Proper Ting Grill Hub, located off Ariapita Avenue between Fitt and Murray Streets, when a car stopped nearby.

Two men armed with guns exited the vehicle and opened fire on the Hyundai, striking George multiple times in the chest and stomach.

The assailants then sped off, leaving George fatally wounded inside the vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, several people were purchasing food along the Avenue and were forced to run for cover to avoid being struck. Police said, however, that the shooting was not random and that the attackers appeared to have specifically targeted George.

Officers from the Woodbrook Police Station were the first responders. They were later joined by officers from the Region One Homicide Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit, who processed the scene.

George’s body was subsequently removed to a mortuary in Port of Spain. A post-mortem examination was conducted today at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park.
