Ministry Extends Condolences On The Passing Of Leroy Sylvester

PR – The Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts, Fisheries and Co-operatives extend condolences to the family, friends and steel pan fraternity on the passing of well-known pannist Leroy Sylvester.

Sylvester was hired by the Government of Grenada in 2009 to introduce, develop and promote steel pan music in Carriacou and Petite Martinique under the Schools Steel Pan Programme. Through this initiative, he taught the art form to students from primary and secondary schools and helped them foster a deeper appreciation for steel pan and blossom into aspiring musicians.

His passion and dedication led to steel pan music becoming a staple at the annual String Band Music Festival, shaping the cultural landscape on the sister isles.

One of his long-term dreams was to have a steel band from Carriacou and Petite Martinique competing in the annual Spicemas Panorama competition.

The Ministry hopes that his loved ones find peace and comfort in his memories. May he rest in peace
