Grenada Ends St. Lucia Friendly Series With A Win 

PR –  The Grenada Senior Men’s National Team ended it’s international  friendly series against St.Lucia with a convincing 2-0 victory on Sunday at the Cuthbert Peters  Park, Gouyave. This victory comes on the heels of a close 2-1 loss at the Kirani James Athletics  Stadium on Friday 3rd March. 

On Friday, both teams played for the majority of the first half with neither side converting their  chances until the deadlock was broken by St.Lucia in the 30th minute. St.Lucia then followed  with a strike in the 69th minute of play. Grenada’s Shermine Williams put Grenada on the board  with a skillful goal in the 88th minute, his first with the Senior Men’s National Team. 

On Sunday, it was different story with Grenada dominating the field from the start and Kimron  Marshall finding the net with a header from a throw-in, in the 5th minute of play. It was the  defender’s first goal after being on the senior team for the past 13 years. Kriston Julien  followed up with a goal in the 68th minute to seal the victory to the delight of the home crowd. 

Following the match, Head Coach Anthony ‘Nixon’Modeste said, “The team worked very hard  for this victory which will boost their confidence going into their encounters against the La  Horquetta Rangers on the weekend and the USA on March 24. 

The team on Sunday was without some of the more recognized faces such as Jamal Ray Charles  and Mackell Ganness, however, Modeste said, “We are keen to give all our players a chance to  gain experience and this team worked hard to deliver.” 

Celebrating his first National team goal, Kimron Marshall said, “It’s a special feeling not only  scoring my first goal, but scoring on my home ground, where I grew up playing football. It will  motivate me for our upcoming matches.”

Kriston Julien who was also in a celebratory mode after netting his second goal for the national  team said, “It’s a great feeling to be on the score sheet for your country in a victory. I am  motivated to work even harder in the upcoming matches.” 

Team Grenada will play Trinidad professional team La Horquetta Rangers on March 10 and 12  respectively as the final fixtures before their Concacaf Nations League match against the USA  on Friday March 24, 8pm at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.
