GFA Hosts Successful Club Management Workshop

PR –  The Grenada Football Association (GFA) hosted a successful Club Management Workshop on May 13 and 14 at Royalton Grenada. Facilitated by Concacaf Director of Caribbean Member Associations Affairs Horace Reid and Senior Development Manager Andre Waugh, the workshop consisted of theory and practical sessions covering major aspects of successful team management. Apart from looking at leadership, management, match day preparation and competition management, the participants were also given practical experience in inspecting hotels and stadia suitable for teams ahead of competition. 

Addressing participants, Waugh threw out a challenge, asking the question, “Do you want to be the best in Grenada or the best for Grenada?” He made this point focusing on club managers important role as mentors who should have empathy and positively guide the players.

He further stated that the challenge for the participants is ensuring that they raise the local standards as it relates to their clubs and competitions.

At the end the two day workshop, the Concacaf Director of Caribbean Football said, “Your players are your greatest asset, therefore you have to put them into the best position to succeed. You have to remove from them everything else, so all they need to think about is delivering the results on the field.”

After completing the programme, Jernest Mitchell who represented Christian Strikers said it was a great experience with practical learning that can be implemented immediately locally.

At the invitation of the GFA, representatives from the Grenada Cricket, Netball and Volleyball Associations participated in the Club Management Workshop. President of the Grenada Netball Association Libert Alexander said he was grateful for the experience and felt that he was able to cover alot of ground to work towards making his organization better.

President of the GFA Marlon Glean implored upon the football clubs and other sporting disciplines to use the information to go back and improve their organizations. He further promised affiliates more opportunities for learning including a Financial Management Workshop later this year.
