PR – Michael Anthony Regis—a prominent Grenadian commentator and an author—has publicly endorsed Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) candidate for St. George South, Charmaine Gibbs, describing her as a strong individual whose vision for Grenada closely aligns with his own.
According to Regis, Gibbs represents the kind of leadership he believes Grenada needs.
“Charmaine’s vision for Grenada coincides with mine,” said Regis, who is 91. “She is a strong person, and I believe that she will serve Grenada with distinction.”
Regis, who also is an educator, is author of the 2025 publication, “Grenada After Fedon’’. The book examines key periods in Grenada’s post-colonial history.
A former trade unionist, his involvement in the labour movement includes serving as an executive member and vice president of the Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU).
As well, he has contributed political and sociological commentaries to Grenadian newspapers.
In announcing his support for Gibbs, Regis also pointed to her family background, particularly the legacy of her late father, Ernest Gregory “Joe” Gibbs.
Joe Gibbs was a respected public servant who worked with the ministry of health and was also an accomplished cricketer.
An offspinner, Gibbs represented Grenada and the Windward Islands in first-class cricket between 1967 and 1973, taking 23 wickets in eight first-class matches.
Regis noted the strong public service tradition associated with Gibbs’ family and drew a biblical comparison to describe his confidence in Charmaine.
“If we are to follow the Bible, Charmaine came from good fruit, and much is expected from her,” he said, invoking the biblical principle that a good tree produces good fruit.
The endorsement adds the voice of a veteran Grenadian public figure, whose career has spanned education, trade union activism, corporate management, political commentary and historical writing, to Charmaine Gibbs’ campaign for the DPM in St. George South.
