Trinidad Express – Police are tonight investigating the death of one of their former colleagues, constable Russell Bedasse.
Bedassee, who resigned from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) following the death of his mother in September, was found dead at his home at Coromandel Village, Cedros, on Tuesday evening.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that he died by suicide.
Following his mother’s death, Bedasse had accused his colleagues at the Southwestern Division of failing investigate the incident, saying she had no reason to end her life.
Residents said Bedasse was depressed and would post videos to social media expressing his disappointment in the police service.
In an interview with the Express in September, Bedasse said he had observed crucial details at the scene of the death of his mother Shelawaithie Bedasse, 57, which trained investigators failed to notice.
Days later, he visited the police station and surrendered his badge and ID. “Book me in as a police and book me out leaving as a civilian. I don’t want no part of this entity again,” Bedasse said.
The Express was told that Bedasse was also distressed that he had not seen his daughter in months.
Bedasse’s father died by suicide 10 years ago.
