PR – On Thursday, Sept. 21, the U.S Embassy to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean and the OECS, along with the U.S.N.S Burlington CP23 Continuing Promise team, will make a donation to several schools in Grenada at the Happy Hill Secondary School, in St. George, at 10:00 a.m.
U.S. Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean and the OECS, H.E. Linda Taglialatela, and Mission Commander CDR Charles Castevens, will be present and will deliver brief remarks. Representatives from the recipient schools will be present to receive on behalf of their institutions. Following the hand over, the officials present will observe a music masterclass taught by Unchartered Waters before their departure.
Uncharted Waters will provide masterclasses in music to students at select secondary schools in Grenada. The U.S. Fleet Forces Navy Band Detachment, “Uncharted Waters” is a segment of the team visiting Grenada via the U.S. Navy expeditionary fast transport ship USNS Burlington from Sept. 12 to 24, as part of the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet’s Continuing Promise 2023 mission.
Additionally, there will be a separate hand over of donated items at the Florida Government School at 11:15 a.m., also on Sept. 21.
Schools benefiting from the donations and other engagements will be the Happy Hill Secondary; Florida Government; Corinth Government; Uganda Martyrs; Marian Pre-School; Grenada Junior Academy; Grenada School for Special Education; Samaritan Presbyterian; Grenville Secondary; Mac Donald College and Boca Secondary schools. Other institutions benefiting include the Grand Bacolet Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre. Items donated will include playground equipment; furniture to include desks, chairs, stools and school easels; sporting equipment; books and bookshelves; ceiling fans and storage bins.
