United States Government Thanked For Disaster Management Support

PR – The United States Southern Command was highly commended for its continuous support to the people of Grenada in the area of disaster management.

The latest support was in a training exercise for the assembling and dismantling of a field hospital in Carriacou. Two (2) field hospitals were donated by the United States Government in March 2022 for emergency purposes. They cost approximately US$1M.

United States Embassy Principal Officer, Frances Herrara, said it’s hoped that the field hospitals will help the Ministry of Health in the eventuality of any future disasters.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Javan Williams, on behalf of Minister Hon. Tevin Andrews, expressed thanks to the US Government. Noting the remoteness of the islands, he said the field hospitals will help to build their resilience in disaster management.

National Disaster Coordinator of NaDMA, Dr. Terrance Walters, said they are thankful, and he will ensure that the field hospitals are taken care of, especially should the main hospital be compromised.

The training was conducted by Jorge Oritz, Director of Sales and Trainer of Western Shelters System.

Over 20 participants participated in the training.
