PR – The Senior Men’s National team is set to embark on their journey to Miami today, in preparation for their upcoming Gold Cup preliminary match against Guyana on June 17. The highly anticipated match will take place at the DRV PNK Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 9pm local time.
The team’s path to the group stage of the Gold Cup involves overcoming a series of challenging matches. After their encounter with Guyana, they will face the winner between Guadeloupe and Trinidad and Tobago. With their sights firmly set on success, the team is ready to demonstrate their skills and showcase Grenada’s football prowess on the international stage.
Under the guidance of newly appointed coach, Terry Connor, the team has undergone an intensive training program to fine-tune their strategies and elevate their performance. Coach Connor initially worked with locally based players, assessing their talent and fitness levels. Subsequently, overseas-based players from the United States and the United Kingdom joined the team on the island, allowing for cohesive training sessions and team bonding.
The team has been fully committed to their preparations, engaging in rigorous training sessions held daily at 9am and 6pm. These sessions have provided invaluable opportunities for the players to enhance their skills, synchronize their gameplay, and strengthen their team dynamics.
As the team departs in batches today and tomorrow Wednesday for their training camp in Miami, anticipation and confidence are running high. Coach Connor expressed his satisfaction with the team’s progress during their training sessions, emphasizing the significant improvements made by the players. He expressed optimism, stating, “With the camp in Miami, I am confident that the boys will give a good showing at the prelims.”
The selected 23-man squad boasts a diverse mix of talent, with ten overseas-based players and thirteen locally based players. The locally based players, who make up 57% of the team, bring their deep-rooted connection to Grenada and a wealth of local football experience to the squad.
The Grenadian football community and fans are eagerly awaiting the team’s performance in the Gold Cup preliminaries. The Senior Men’s National team carries with them the hopes and support of the nation as they embark on this challenging journey.
