New Fish Centre For The Windward Community

PR  – Working together to revolutionize the fishing industry in Carriacou and Petite Martinique is the promise made to the fishermen of the twin-isle parish by MP Tevin Andrews. He’s also Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government.

Speaking at the official sod-turning ceremony for the construction of a new fish centre in the community of Windward, Minister Andrews recalled visiting the present fish centre during the 2022 general election campaign and noting its rundown condition. He promised then that once elected, it would be one of the first major infrastructure projects to be undertaken.

At the new fish centre, there will be improvement in the storage and ice facilities; and, with Windward considered the fish capital of Carriacou, enhancement work will also be done on the two jetties in the area.

For Fisheries Officer Junior McDonald, the new facility should act as a source of encouragement for young fishermen.

The work on the new fish centre which will be located on the grounds of the present one will be done by contractor Stephen McDonald, who is from the area.

Meanwhile, a special presentation of a fishing net was given to Frank Patrice for his brother Nordge Patrice. The net was donated by Lydia Andrew, a Kayak living in the United States.
