PR – A fourteen-member contingent departs Grenada today to participate in the 36th CARIFTA Swimming Championships to be held in Curaçao. The contingent comprises a ten- member national team accompanied by their coach and other team officials.
The National team includes swimmers, Tilly Collymore, Sara Dowden and Anaika Otway of the 15-17 age group, Kristin Gresham, Zeia Ollivierre and Maggie Watson of the 11-12 age group, while the males comprise Mallon Patterson,13-14 male, and 11-12, Jacob Collymore and Jazziel Francis. The team is coached by Coach Gerson Escobar and team managers will be Mr. Nigel Gresham and Mrs. Ruth Collymore. US based Gabrielle Hyson of the 15-17 age group will join the team in Curaçao.
While this year’s CARIFTA Swim team comprises several newcomers from the 11to12 and 13 to 14 age groups, all the swimmers have previously competed in either of several regional and /or international games which include: Commonwealth, FINA World Championships, Pan American Games, CCCAN and OECS Swimming competitions. Swimmers will compete in 4 to 8 events each. Female swimmer, Tilly Collymore, is the lone Grenadian swimmer to compete in the Open Water component of the CARIFTA Swimming Championships.
The athletes have been engaged in rigorous training in preparation for the competitions, and therefore the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association looks forward to keen competitions from each swimmer and extends best wishes to the entire team.
