PR – “All hands are needed on deck in order for our nation to succeed’’. Those words of appeal from Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Tevin Andrews, came as he delivered remarks at an anniversary of independence awards’ ceremony and cocktail.
The event, here in Carriacou, was part of the nation’s 49th anniversary of independence. February 7th is Independence Day.
Minister Andrews said it is always important to give recognition to persons who have contributed in one way or another to the development of the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Ten people, in different categories, were presented with awards at the ceremony, which was held at the Cassada Bay Resort. They were Patricia John – Public Service; Sherwin Noel, who owns and operates Lambi Queen Tours, was awarded for Tourism; Dave Gabriel – Business; Northern Development Action Committee – Community Service; Police Constable #831 Arnold Cornwall and Mario Blaize – Sports; Gerald John – Agriculture; Dr. Wilfred Siesa – Health; Barbara Charles – Education; and Christopher Jones – Culture.
Meanwhile, activities for the 49th independence anniversary culminate on February 2nd and 3rd in Petite Martinique and Carriacou. They take the form of parish rallies, which are expected to be attended by Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade and Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell. Citizens are encouraged to dress in their national colours and participate in the rallies.
