PR – The Grenada National Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT Gnd) wishes to inform the public of a compromised Facebook profile which is being used in a catfishing and sextortion scam targeting locals. The account is in the name of Sherwin Fortune or marcus.fortune1.
Catfishing involves luring someone into a relationship using a fabricated or fictional online persona while sextortion involves threatening to distribute someone’s private/sensitive material (usually of a sexual nature) for sexual favors, or money among other things. Both catfishing and sextortion contravene Grenada’s Electronic Crimes Act, 2013.
The public is reminded that they should be cautious with whom they interact with online and even more so when it comes to the sharing of personal and sensitive information.
Anyone needing assistance or information in dealing with these types of scams can reach out to the Grenada National Cyber Security Incident Response Team on WhatsApp and Telegram on (473) 423- 2478; via email at csirtgnd@gov.gd; or on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at @csirtgnd.
