PR – Forecasters at the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport are monitoring a southward tilting Atlantic cold front which entered the Caribbean Basin located between 15N/16N near Guadeloupe and Dominica, extending between 60W and 72W.
Northerly to North Easterly winds have been advecting (carrying) cool to chilly air currents from the cold front across the island chain including the State of Grenada. A prefrontal trough system is located southeast of the cold front near 55W, about 393 nautical miles (728 km) east of Grenada.
Weather models suggest that the prefrontal trough will progress northwestward across the island chain between Tuesday and Wednesday, triggering a northward surge in moisture and instability from South America to Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands. This will support increased cloudiness and showery activity which may be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Weather conditions on Monday night, are forecast to be generally fair @ first and chilly, increasing in cloudiness by early morning with the chance of brief, light to moderate showers.
On Tuesday, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light to moderate showers and the chance of thunderstorms can be expected. Similar conditions are projected for Wednesday should environmental conditions remain conducive.
Potential Impacts of the weather conditions are:
– Low chance of street flooding and/or flash flooding in vulnerable areas on Tuesday and Wednesday morning
– Low chance of landslides and rock fall on Tuesday and Wednesday morning
– Territorial coastal waters are projected to be agitated with waves extending to 8 feet in above normal North Easterly swells.
High surf and marine advisories remain in effect
