PR – The National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) is assuring the general public that so far, there has been no adverse impact detected on the country’s raw water quality due to the presence of the dust and ash. NAWASA further assures the public that it will be increasing its monitoring of all water systems in the coming days/weeks as we grapple with the effects of combined presence of ash and dust.
Management officials confirm receipt of numerous messages from the general public on water quality concerns. The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) has since issued an advisory with information from Meteorological Services at the airport, confirming that it is possible for minute ash particles to spread southward to Grenada.
Grenadians are advised that there are no immediate plans for a complete system shutdown. However, the situation could change depending on the intensity and duration of the eruptions at the La Soufriere volcano, the quantity of material ejected, as well as the prevailing wind direction. NAWASA encourages the general public to use this opportunity to ensure that they have three (3) days onsite water storage available for use. If the circumstances change, the general public will be advised immediately.
The general public is further encouraged to use NAWASA’s Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram and its website www.nawasa.gd), and its partners like Mikey Live, the Government Information Service, Party Grenada, NOW Grenada and Media Houses for official NAWASA updates, to avoid being influenced by “fake news”.
Meanwhile, NAWASA’s Management has been in communication with the Management Team at the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) and stands ready to provide human and material support as requested. In addition, management continues dialogue with the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) through the National Emergency Advisory Council (NEAC).
NAWASA empathizes with the Government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines who are affected by the La Soufriere volcanic eruption.
