PR – The Grenada Movement (TGM) is closely following the grave situation unfolding in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Our Chairman, Dr. Patrick Antoine, is in contact with his colleagues in the islands to get an assessment of the situation, as are our members with links and ties to the nation.
According to Dr. Antoine, “this volcanic eruption and the disruption caused to people’s lives and livelihoods serves as an untimely and unnecessary reminder of the extreme vulnerability of Small Island Developing States, and reaffirms the need for resilience financing to cope with the social and economic dislocation which attend to events of this nature.”
TGM is heartened by the region-wide outpouring of solidarity with the Government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We call on the Caribbean community to spare no measure in assisting the people of SVG in this time of crisis, recalling their selflessness to us all whenever and wherever similar circumstances have beset us in the past.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbours affected by this situation, as they endure this difficult and disruptive time.
