PR – The G.U.T. Credit Union (GUTCU) donated $1000 to the Golden Rock Kids Club to help develop a literacy corner for young children.
The Golden Rock Kids Club is a not for profit organisation in Brunswick geared toward improved literacy for children on the island of Carriacou. Currently it supports over 30 children from Jean Pierre in the north to Harvey Vale in the south.
“GUTCU is dedicated to supporting our community here in Carriacou,” said Marsha Douglas, Officer in charge of the GUTCU’s Carriacou branch. “We believe that our readers of today become our leaders of tomorrow, and so we are happy to contribute to such an important initiative.”
Owner of the club, Mrs. Emma Williams, expressed her appreciation for the timely contribution. “The Club is very grateful to the G.U.T Cooperative Credit Union for their assistance; it means the students will be able to relax in a comfortable reading environment. As Arslan (2008) states, one of the factors that affects reading is the physical surrounding in which students are exposed to reading. This contribution will ensure that the environment is made truly comfortable with rugs, shelves, throw pillows and of course, books.”
As a credit union, giving back to the communities in which it operates is a central part of GUTCU’s core values. The credit union is a proud supporter of education, youth and financial literacy initiatives.
