Prime Minister And Cabinet Colleagues Take Oath Of Office As They Prepare To Assume New Portfolios On Monday

PR Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, and his  Cabinet colleagues have taken their respective oaths of office, as they prepare to assume  new ministerial portfolios on October 5, 2020.

Following the recent Cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Mitchell now has responsibility for the Ministry  of National Security, Public Administration, Youth Development, Home Affairs,  Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Management.

It is the first time he will be responsible for the area of Youth Development, and in an  interview immediately following the swearing in ceremony, Dr. Mitchell said ensuring  adequate human resource capacity and job security are among his priority areas.

He said, “We have to ensure that there is sufficient personnel to implement the many  initiatives the Ministry of Youth Development is undertaking. This is particularly important  because we need to take a serious look at the IMANI Programme and ensure we are  serving our young people in the best possible manner. I said before there will be radical  change and I assure you today that there will be a complete overhaul of the programme.”

The Prime Minister reiterated his confidence that given his experience and constant  engagement with young people, he will be able to bring about meaningful change. He  cited the areas of sports and ICT as opportunities to create a natural connection with the  nation’s youth.
