Tropical Depression Rene Expected To Regain Tropical Storm Status

    (LOOP NEWS CARIBBEAN) – The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has forecast that Tropical Depression Rene will regain tropical storm strength later today.

    At 5 am AST, the centre of Rene was located about 440 miles (710 km) west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.

    Rene is moving toward the west-northwest at around 14 mph (22 km/h) and a motion toward west-northwest is expected to take place during the next couple of days, followed by a turn to the northwest.

    The storm has maximum sustained winds that are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

    There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
