(LOOP NEWS BARBADOS) – Classes at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus will resume a week later than scheduled.
The 2020/2021 school year at the campus will now commence next week on Monday, September 14.
Previously, the semester was set to begin tomorrow, September 7. However, students were notified last Thursday (September 3) that classes would commence a week later than scheduled.
This is due to the overwhelmingly high number of late applications, according to a press release from the university.
As a result of the increased number of late applications, additional time is needed for the university to appropriately cater for teaching spaces for first-year students who will be attending face-to-face classes.
The situation was also addressed at the campus’ virtual town hall meeting last week Thursday.
According to Professor Justin Robinson, all first-year students will be attending lectures and tutorials at the campus.
On the other hand, continuing students will have the option of a hybrid form of teaching. Students will have the option of attending lectures face-to-face or online except for pedagogical, health and capacity reasons. Despite this, tutorials will be held online.
