Earthquake Off T&T’s North-West Coast

(TRINIDAD GUARDIAN) – The UWI Seis­mic Re­search Cen­tre is re­port­ing that there was an earth­quake, last night, of 5.1 mag­ni­tude on the Richter scale.

Ac­cord­ing the UWI Seis­mic pre­lim­i­nary re­port, the earth­quake orig­i­nat­ed at a point just off the north-east coast of Venezuela, the north-west­ern coast of Trinidad and the south­west­ern coast of Grena­da.

It oc­curred at about 10:44 pm, and was at Lat­i­tude 10.93 de­grees North; and Lon­gi­tude 62.14 West, and was lo­cat­ed at a depth of 83 kilo­me­tres.

In terms of its prox­im­i­ty to Trinidad, the earth­quake was lo­cat­ed 76 km north­west of Port of Spain; 100 km west-north­west of Ari­ma; and 106 km north­west of San Fer­nan­do.
