Tourism Stakeholders In Grenada Meet To Action Communications Strategy In Response To The Risk Of COVID-19

PR- As Grenada’s Ministry of Health continues to work with all stakeholders to implement strong measures in response to the external threat of COVID-19, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) met with stakeholders to review and action its communications strategy. Presently, there are no reported cases of the coronavirus in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The meeting held on Tuesday March 3 at the GTA headquarters in St. George’s included the recently formed GTA Communications Committee with invitations extended to additional stakeholders. Present was Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, Chairman of the GTA Mrs. Brenda Hood, key communications personnel in the Ministry of Health and representatives of the Grenada Ports Authority, Grenada Airports Authority and Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association.

Grenada is following strict protocols as it relates to the coronavirus and is now observing Importation Transmission Watch. In addition to the travel ban on non-nationals with recent travel history to mainland China, Grenadian Health officials will conduct thorough assessments of travelers from affected countries/cities (Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Iran and Singapore) to determine their risk of exposure.

Once the risk is determined as high, a traveller from an affected country may be quarantined. Health authorities are also advising people to avoid non-essential travel to these areas, and are reminding those who choose to do so that on their return, they can be quarantined for a maximum of 14 days.

The Ministry of Health updated the Committee on its multipronged approach in response to the risk of the Coronavirus including a robust public awareness programme and enhanced surveillance and monitoring. The meeting ended with all parties having a clear understanding of their roles as it relates to the communication process and confidence in Grenada’s response to COVID-19.
