nydailynews.com- A Grenadian woman living in Brooklyn was killed by her suicidal ex and her boyfriend was injured in what appears to be the city’s third murder-suicide in less than a week, police said.
Janed Duncan, 24, was found shot inside her home on Utica Ave. near Ave. N in Flatlands at about 2 p.m. Her killer, Darnell Solomon, 30, was found in the same apartment with a gunshot wound to his head, cops said.
Both were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Solomon was visiting Duncan when he discovered her with her new boyfriend. Enraged, he shot both of them before taking his own life, police sources said.
The boyfriend, 33, whose name has not been released, was taken to Brookdale Hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso. His condition was stable, cops said.
A neighbor alerted police to the chaos after hearing a series of gunshots and then seeing a man bleeding, cops said.
Duncan’s aunt, who did not wish to give her name, described her niece as an ambitious young woman with a bright future. She said the woman’s family members in Grenada are distraught.
“She used to study biology, but she switched over to education,” the aunt said, adding that Duncan worked with young children at a charter school in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
“Her mother is back home,” in Grenada, the aunt said. “She keeps calling and calling … I’m just trying to hold it together. Can’t do anything, can’t bring her back. She’s already gone.”
Neighbors told the Daily News they were familiar with Duncan’s ex, who they described as violent and problematic.
“They had fights in the house — you’d hear the thumps and so forth,” said neighbor Blaze Anthonio.
Police visited the home on Labor Day to take a domestic violence report, Anthonio said.
“The crazy one come and get her,” said a woman who works at Color Me Beautiful beauty salon, on the building’s ground floor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “Very talented young lady — she do her own thing. She broke up with her boyfriend and he couldn’t take it.”
The incident marks the city’s third murder-suicide in just five days.
On Wednesday, the bodies of Jennifer Schlecht, 42, and her 5-year-old daughter, Abayesh, were found decapitated inside their Harlem home. Police believe a disturbed Yonathan Tedla, 46, mercilessly killed his wife and child before taking his own life.
Schlecht, a former Peace Corps member currently working for the United Nations Foundation on international emergency responses, had attempted to file an order of protection against Tedla a day earlier but was thwarted as some courts were closed for Election Day.
On Friday, 27-year-old Donne Dojoy was stabbed to death by her husband Dinhwar Budhidat in Ozone Park, Queens. He then hanged himself from a tree.
Dojoy had taken out an order of protection against her husband after he became increasingly violent towards her in the months after their marriage in July, according to court documents.
