newsroom.gy- A one year and six months old baby girl is now dead after falling into a trench located close to her home at Harlem, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Monday.
Police said Aleena Mohamed was left by her 23-year-old mother in the yard while she went in the house to get a towel to give her a bath.
The mother told investigators that she had forgotten that a gate was left open; the gate leads from the back yard to a sheep pen and then further to the trench.
Upon her return, the mother did not find the toddler and raised an alarm.
Searches were conducted in the trench and the toddler was found at about 50 feet down the trench.
She was immediately rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
No marks of violence were seen on the body.
The incident occurred between 17:00hrs and 18:50hrs. Investigations are ongoing.
