loopnewsbarbados.com-Two non-nationals have been arrested and charged following a drug discovery at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).
They are Theresia Serieux, 24 and Lorna Baptiste, 21 both of Anseger Desruisseaux, Castries, St. Lucia.
The two women, who are sisters, were charged with possession of cannabis, intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
Police report that on Wednesday, August 28, the accused arrived at the GAIA on-board LIAT Flight 369 from St. Lucia. . They cleared immigration and were interviewed by police officers from the Drug Squad who were on duty in the Arrivals Hall.
As a result, they were referred to Customs where a search of their luggage was conducted. During the search of Serieux luggage, officers discovered seven vacuum-sealed packages, each wrapped in transparent plastic containing vegetable matter. The drugs weighed one kilogram with a street value of $4,000 BDS.
In the suitcase belonging to Baptiste, eight packages, each containing vegetable matter also weighing one kilogram, were discovered. The estimated street value is $4,000 BDS.
Both women appeared at the District ‘B’ Magistrates Court on Friday, August 30.
