From September 1 travellers to Barbados will no longer have to fill out the customs and immigration forms known as ED cards.
This, as the 48 kiosks at the Grantley Adams Airport become fully operational.
Speaking to reporters last week, Minister of Home Affairs, Edmund Hinkson said the kiosks will cut down the processing time it takes passengers to get through immigration.
“The processing time at the kiosk is 60 seconds, 75 seconds, a minute and a half for those who are technically challenged you are. That automatically gives you information on nationality, date of birth, occupation so you don’t have to ask those questions,” he said.
To assist the country’s tourism agency in gathering data about its visitors, additional questions have been added to the kiosks for international visitors such as zip code and type of accommodation.
Hinkson assured that no immigration officials will be retrenched since there is still a lot of work for them to do.
