Invigilators Fired Over CSEC Math Exam Breach Corrective action has been taken by the Education Ministry following a breach in examination security during a CSEC Math examination at one secondary school.

The Ministry was made aware of the misconduct after a video began circulating on social media showing inappropriate communication and cellular phone usage by students due to inadequate supervision at the Examinations Centre.

The misconduct also attracted the attention of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®), which is now working closely with the Ministry to carry out a thorough investigation in the matter.

In responding to the incident, CXC assured that “appropriate corrective action will be taken quickly to reinforce existing security measures and to mitigate any potential impact”.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has terminated the services of the invigilators at this Centre and has given instructions to Examination Coordinators to monitor centres closely to ensure strict adherence to examination protocol.

On conclusion of the investigation, a full report will be submitted to CXC, which will determine the consequences for the actions of students.

Under the CXC’s guidelines for examination administration, candidates are not allowed to communicate with one another when in the examination room, bring any unauthorised material or devices into the examination room, or indulge in any other form of unfair or dishonest practice.

Penalties for misconduct or dishonest practice include the cancellation of a candidate’s examination papers, disqualification, and being barred entry to future examinations offered by the Council for a period of up to two years.

The Ministry stated its commitment to ensuring fairness to all students during the examination period, adding that any and all incidents of misconduct will be treated with the necessary penalties applicable.

It’s reminding students sitting the CSEC and CAPE examinations of the need to adhere to the guidelines set for examinations by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) in light of the incident.
