A parent of a 13-year-old alleged rape victim today offered to post bail for the accused rapist.
After bail was granted to Ravindra Rampadarath, the child’s mother said that her husband wanted to take his bail.
Rampadarath was charged that on January 7 at a guest house in Ste Madeleine he sexually penetrated the 13-year-old girl.
The indictable charge was laid by constable Nicole St John of the Child Protection Unit.
Rampadarath 21 of New Grant, who was unrepresented, told the court he lived with his parents. He said he met the girl on Instagram seven months ago.
The two live in different areas.
Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan made no object to Rampadarath’s bail but asked for the conditions, that there be no contact with the alleged victim by any means, including social media and through a third party.
Chankar placed Rampadarath on $75,000 bail with his father as surety.
As a condition of bail, he is to have not contact directly or via social media with the alleged victim or relatives. He is also to report to the Tableland police station every Saturday.
The girl and her mother were in court for the matter.
After the bail was granted the child’s mother said, “My husband wanted to take the bail for him.”
Chankar warned her that no contact is to be made with the defendant. She said the matter was before the court and will continue on its course.
The magistrate also told the mother that the police prosecutor would speak to her at the end of the hearing.
Seedan spoke to the mother and daughter after the matter was adjourned to March 26.
