Press Release From The Public Workers Union – The Public Workers’ Union will be having a “Health Workers Appreciation Rally” to be held on Saturday, 13th October, 2018 at the Grenada Public Workers’ Union (GPWU) Car Park, Tanteen, St. George’s from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This rally is to express appreciation and thanks to the honourable sisters and brothers who sacrifice to provide quality health care services to our nations’ people. The theme of our rally is “We Care about Health Care”.
This rally is being held on the heels of recent statements made by Prime Minister the Rt. Honourable Dr. Keith Mitchell at a Town Hall Meeting in New York, labeling nurses, doctors, orderlies and security as “incompetent and thieves”.
In this regard, the GPWU is extending an invitation to the general public to join us and demonstrate your solidarity, love and appreciation for Health Care Workers and, to show appreciation for their valuable contributions.
GPWU recognizes that statements made by our Prime Minister have not only damaged the reputation of our members but it would also negatively affect the entire nation as it has: –
- Implicated the tutorship of a friendly nation, Cuba, as over 90% of our Doctors received training and certification there;
- Damaged the image of the professions in our nation;
- Increased the level of verbal disrespect to our members of the health care services from the general public;
- Threatened the economical and national security as Grenadians home and abroad as donor agencies may be reluctant to issue financial and material aid to the health sector.
The GPWU looks forward to your kind and worthy support for our health care members.
