GRENADA: Police Reports A 76.9% Increase In Business House Fires And 13.2% In Dwelling House Fires

According to Grenada police, there has been an increase in house fires in 2018 compared to the year, 2017. According to the statistical data of the fire department of the Royal Grenada Police Force, throughout the Tri-Island state Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, for the period January – October 2017, the department responded to 178 emergency calls.

In contrast, for the period January – October 2018, the department responded to 280 emergency calls which represents a 36.42% increase.

For the period January – October 2017, the department responded to 36 structural fires; however, period January – October 2018, the department responded to 51 structural fire which represents a 29.4% increase.

Of the 36 structural fires responded, 33 were dwelling house and 3 business house. In contrast, 2018, of the 51 structural fires: 38 were dwelling house and 13 businesses.

It can be therefore deduced that there was an increase of 13.2% in dwelling house and 76.9% increase in business house fires.
