Islands Hit By Strong Wind, Heavy Rain and Earthquake

St. GEORGE’S GRENADA – September 28, 2018 – Two quakes measuring magnitude 5.6 and 4.2 respectively, rattled the northern Windward and Southern Leeward Islands just about mid-morning Friday. The quakes happened at a time these islands are being battered by Tropical Storm Kirk, currently packing winds of 50 mph and producing total rainfall of 4 to 6 Inches.

According to the UWI Seismic Research Center, the first quake happened at 08:32 am (Local Time) and had a magnitude of 5.6. It was located latitude: 15.11 and longitude: 60.43W and depth of 10 km. 91 km NE of Fort-de-France, Martinique, 108 km ESE of Roseau, Dominica and 134 km NE of Castries, Saint Lucia.

This was followed by a strong aftershock, 09:27 am, measuring magnitude 4.2, in the same area, located latitude: 15.08N and longitude: 60.25W and the same depth of 10 km.
