Grenada’s four-time Soca Monarch, Jalon ‘Boyzie’ Olive, has added yet another title to his name, capturing the Organization Of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Soca title for a second time, Saturday.
The competition, which is now in its third year, saw participants from Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, Grenada, Nevis, St. Kitts, Aruba, Anguilla and host country, Montserrat.
There were two rounds of competition. Grenada placed 1st in both Categories – Groovy and Power.
Kirk Seetahal, CEO of the Spicemas Corporation said, “This is not only a win for our National Soca Monarch, Jalon Boyzie Olive …this is a win for Grenada’s music, which has taken over the world.” Seetahal remarked that, “At the Spicemas Corporation we are delighted to facilitate and assist our artistes as they explore avenues outside of Grenada.”
This is Grenada’s third time participating in the OECS Soca Monarch and the 2nd win for Boyzie and Grenada.
Boyzie, in an interview with MikeyLive correspondent in Monserrat, Dwight Sampson, said he was happy to represent Grenada and retain the title. Click play below to listen to the interview.
