Cocoa Farmers Speak Of Their Plight

St. George, Grenada – February 25, 2018 – Cocoa farmers in Grenada say once the Grenada Cocoa Association (GCA) isn’t buying Cocoa, they lose money through spoilage. The GCA is the only association authorized to buy Cocoa from the farmers on a large scale.

In late January and early February, for a period of about 4 weeks, the association wasn’t buying the Cocoa bean from the farmers due to financial constraints.

In the 3rd week of February, government announced that it has made a decision to help the association from its financial troubles by giving it a 1.5 million dollars bailout. On Monday 19th the association started buying Cocoa again.

Although the farmers were happy to sell their produce once more, they expressed their frustration and loses in the past few weeks.
